Carnival Route and Road Closures 2019

Illuminated Evening Carnival Route – Saturday 12 October 2019

The carnival will set off at 7pm from Ansford Academy, go along Ansford Road, before turning right down North Street.  After going thru the centre of the town, the procession turns right at The Triangle, and then left onto Station Road.  The carnival comes to an end just after the junction with Hallett Road.

Road Closures 

This year there are some changes to the road closures, to ensure our carnival passes off safely.  The changes are to the roads where the procession lines up – see below.

Centre of town – road closures in place from 6:30pm

Mandatory road closures in the centre of town on the carnival route, and on approach roads will be in place from 6:30pm to 11:00pm (latest).

The following roads will be closed:

  • On the junction of Millbrook Gardens / Park Street (at Phillips Garage)
  • At Station Road, before the West Park turning
  • On the A371 at the top of Ansford Hill (after the Tuckers Lane turning)
  • Wyke Road at junction with Ansford Road (Waggon and Horses)
  • The A371 / A359 at Grove Cross (crossroads to Bruton and Wincanton)
  • The turnpike at the A359 / B3152 (off the Galhampton/Sparkford road)
  • The junction of the A371 / B3152 (at the bottom of Ansford Hill)
  • The junction of Torbay Road and Station Road (the top of Torbay Road)

Where the procession forms up, the following roads will also be closed, between 4:00pm – 11:00pm:

  • Victoria Park, Victoria Gardens, Florida Fields, and Churchfield Drive

 

Children’s Carnival Road Closures – Saturday 5 October

On Saturday 5 October, mandatory road closures will be in place between 3pm – 4pm, and in some cases to 5:30pm in the centre of Cary.

The following roads on the procession route will be closed between 3:00 – 4:00pm:

  • Junction of Ansford Road/High Street (by Highfield House Nursing Home)
  • Junction of Station Road/Victoria Road
  • Junction of South Cary Lane/South Street
  • Junction of South Street and Millbrook Gardens

The following roads will be closed for the entertainment programme between 4:00 – 5:30pm latest:

  • Access to the town centre from Junction of Ansford Road/High Street (by Highfied Nursing Home)
  • Left turn at the junction of Woodcock Street with the High Street
  • Right turn at the junction of Bailey Hill with the High Street.
  • Note – this means that whilst the entertainment programme is going on, there is no traffic outside the Market House.
