Children’s Carnival 2019

Last Saturday, the sun shone as a warm and welcoming crowd enjoyed watching a hugely entertaining Children’s Carnival procession in Castle Cary. The smiling faces of spectators – let alone the participants – said if all!  A fabulously heart-warming event.

“It’s one of my favourite days of the year.” said organiser Sue Pexton, “A very big thank you to everyone who works so hard to make it happen!”

Leading the procession were the Children’s Carnival Prince and Princess, Arthur Pocock and Lillie Silvester looking properly royal in a gorgeous open-topped car, followed by Cary’s Cygnet Majorettes in top baton-twirling form.

The Scouts were celebrating 100 years of Scouting in Cary, Poppy Hobson was the most original entry with ‘Grandad’s Poppy’ and Elaine’s Childminding Gang, terrified the town with Shark Tours and Teeth, in their phenomenal entry ‘Baby Shark and Friends.”!

Thanks also to the McDonald’s Sparkford team for sparkling face-painting, Flotsam the Fool and team for teaching us all circus skills, and Wurst Aid BBQ man Jan Schimmelpfennig, for keeping us fed … and all in aid of carnival funds!

Committee Treasurer, Jeannie Thanisch said “It’s a real testimony to our community that we can put on this amazing event.  Thanks to everyone carnival spirit is alive and well in Cary and Ansford!”

Cary’s Carnival Committee is now looking forward to this Saturday’s Illuminated Carnival.  The town’s excellent independent shops are already dressed in the carnival spirit with incredibly creative window displays!

In the procession this year are nine floats – up two on last year – three bands including our favourite HMS Heron band and channeling some Rio-vibes Blackdown Samba Band.  With ‘high class’ entries like a stilt-walking glow performer, and other incredible walking entries, the procession is set to once again to give Cary a night to remember.

“We have worked really hard as a committee this year to raise extra funds, and gain new sponsors and supporters.” said General Secretary, Caroline Sharley.  “A huge thank you to everyone for making sure Carnival in Castle Cary and Ansford at 42 years young is ready to party next Saturday!”

Our full list of sponsors are; Town and Country Hot Tubs, The George Hotel, Stonewater Housing, Stonewood Building, Ansford Parish Council, MWI Animal Health (formally Centaur Services), Wyke Farms. Then, BGW Solicitors, Battens Solicitors Charitable Trust, Cinema in Caryford, Delaware Veterinary Group, John Boyd Textiles, WDI Consulting and The White Hart.

The procession starts at 7.00pm; there will be parking restrictions on the procession route from the afternoon (any vehicles found parked on the route after this time may be subject to prosecution and may be removed, by Police authorisation).  Road closures, in the town centre and approach roads, are in place from 6.30pm, and on Chruchfield Drive area where the procession forms from 4pm.
