Children’s Carnival Hits A Fund-Raising High.

The sun shone on Castle Cary’s annual Children’s Carnival last Saturday – and spectators gave an amazing amount of money to local causes. When the collection was counted after this year’s parade, it came to just over £460 – well above last year’s total of £303. Carnival Committee Press Officer Paul Hansford said, “The total came as a complete surprise. We cannot thank people enough: for taking part in the parade and making it such a success; for turning out to watch and applaud the children – and of course for being so generous in these hard times.” He added, “The entrants, both children and parents, were really good this year – some of the best costumes and ideas I’ve seen. And the spectator turnout around the town was bigger than ever.”

Among the many prizes awarded this year, Ellen, Daniel, Alice and Amy Stokes won the Best Props and Best Overall Entrant for their ‘Peter Pan’ entry; The Most Entertaining Entry prize went to India and Nyah Davies, Sadie & Topaz Oram and Phoebe Higgins for their ‘Jackson 5’ entry. The Most Original Entry prize went to Castle Cary Beavers and Cubs for their ‘Planes, Boats and Trains’. The Youngest Entrant was Amy Stokes, aged just 5 months.

Castle Cary’s evening Illuminated Carnival takes place this Saturday evening (17 October). Please be sure to arrive early, as road closures will be in place well before the parade starts.
