A Fund-Raising Event With A First World War Theme
A taste of life at home during the years of the Great War is on offer at Caryford Hall, Castle Cary, on Friday 8 August. Castle Cary’s Carnival Society is hosting an evening of skits, songs and a burlesque artiste, in aid of their carnival funds.
The evening, titled On The Home Front, will include a buffet supper and complementary glass of wine with monologues and songs from the War years from Brian Hallett & Company, plus an appearance by west country burlesque artiste Peach Schnaps.
Organiser Sue Stockman said, “We wanted to run an event which ties in with all the commemorations of the First World War, but to reflect the sort of things that kept people going during those years – the songs they sang, the entertainment they had back then.”
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets are £7.50 (£5 for children) and can be had from Carnival Committee members Sue Stockman ( 01963 440472), Ann Emery (01963 34696) and Maureen Higgins (01963 350498). Early booking is advised.
