Local Carnival Society Gives Over £2000 To Deserving Local Causes

Despite facing a one -third drop in attendance at their October 2013 carnival night (caused largely by the A371 bridge repairs at Castle Cary’s station) Castle Cary’s Carnival Society has given over £2,000 to deserving local causes and emergency services.

Castle Cary & Ansford Carnival Society (CCACS) held its annual Presentations Evening in Cary’s Constitutional Club last Friday evening. Many braved the rainy weather to attend the Carnival Society’s annual Presentations Evening, where the Society made donations totalling £2,100 to local causes – including children’s groups, carnival clubs and the emergency services.

The 2014 CCACS donations go to a wide range of local causes – including the provision of CAB advice leaflets for local towns, Playdays for children, and art-and-craft materials for school and ot her project visits to a local wildlife conservation site. As usual, donations were made to the town’s carnival clubs, but CCACS Chair Di Pinnions reported that the Carnival Committee has this year donated to a Lung Disease charity, in lieu of their usual donation to the Britannia CC – in memory of the club’s long-serving member Nigel Strickland.

Committee member Paul Hansford said: “These donations, which do so much good in our community, have held up well despite the difficulties we faced in 2013; it’s all thanks to the generous people of Castle Cary, and everyone who made the effort to come to our carnivals last year.” He added, “I would like to thank the local Press and Media for supporting us so well to raise awareness of our carnivals, and to the CISPP (Carnivals In Somerset Promotion Project) for helping to promote our and others Somerset carnivals.”

The Carnival Committee is already organising fundraising events for 2014 .
