Make the most of your evening carnival!

Make the most of your evening carnival!

Welcome to another great year of carnival in Castle Cary and Ansford.

The Evening Illuminated Carnival, is on Saturday 15 October from 7pm

This year, after our special shorter ‘community carnival’ route in 2021, the procession returns to its traditional route.  The parade will leave Ansford Academy before winding its way through the town and ending along Station Road.

After our very special community carnival in 2021, celebrating coming out of Covid restrictions, this year we are well and truly ‘back to normal’!  Carnival spirit comes to Cary in style, with the glitz, music and lights of the big floats, the engaging entertainment of our fabulous masqueraders walking through the town, a variety of bands and troupes of twirling majorettes.

Here are a few things to look out for this year …

Before the procession

From 6pm outside the Market House in the centre of town, you can get into the carnival spirit singing along with local covers band A Cunning Plan.  Then tap your feet to the amazing Enigma Border Morris.

Food outlets

Food outlets this year will all be provided by local pubs, shops and carnival’s own authentic German sausage stall.  We want to give every opportunity to support our local community!

Bands!

Our favourite HMS Heron Volunteer Band are joined by the young talent of the Dolphin Marching Band.  Their energy is infectious! This year our South American rhythms come from Blackdown Samba Band – give them a toe-tapping, hip-wiggling ‘welcome back’ to Cary!

So, about the floats then?

We’re delighted that entries are looking really strong.   Our very own Cary Comedians are set to make us giggle with their entry Ship Faced, and Hot Rock from Mere’s entry The Rush sounds full-on!

We hear that Ansford Academy Carnival Club will be entering again. Look out for them and give them a special Castle Cary Carnival cheer!

After the procession

This year the carnival results will be announced outside the Market House, as quickly as we can process the Judges scores.  Think Eurovision but with more glitter!  So, it’s party time in the town centre, with A Cunning Plan and the Blackdown Samba Band entertaining the crowd.

BRING IT ON!!
