Local Carnival Society Gives Over £2300 To Deserving Local Causes
Despite facing financial difficulties in 2011, a Carnival Society has managed to give over £2300 to deserving local causes and emergency services.
Castle Cary & Ansford Carnival Society held its annual Presentations Evening in Cary’s Constitutional Club last Friday evening. The well-attended event saw the Society’s committee make donations totalling £2390 to 17 local causes – including children’s groups, carnival clubs, hospices and the emergency services.
Committee member Sue Stockman said: “These donations, which do so much good, are possible only through the collections we make at our carnivals. In these hard times, it says a lot for the generous people of Castle Cary that we have managed to maintain the amount of cash we can give back into the community for another year.”
Last year’s Cary carnivals almost didn’t run at all, due to lack of funds. Only at the last minute did Committee members find some new sponsors. Gordon Stockman warned that the carnival committee could face the same situation in 2012: “We remain in urgent need of sponsors. Our cash float has reduced in the last few years and, without extra sponsorship, we may not have enough to finance this year’s carnivals.”
Committee members are already organising fundraising events for 2012. On 17 March, they will host a murder mystery evening at the Constitutional Club, performed by the Murder To Measure company. Other events are being planned.
