Castle Cary Swings Into Carnival Mode
It will be carnival time in Castle Cary this Saturday afternoon (9 October) when the Children’s Carnival parades through the town. The carnival has been going for 25 years and is believed to be one of only two in Somerset specifically for children. It starts off from the Constitutional Club at 3 pm.
Judging of entries takes place at the Constitutional Club beforehand (around 2:15 pm) – the winner of each class is presented with a perpetual trophy and a memento of the day. There are also trophies for the youngest entrant and for the entry with the best props. No child goes away from the carnival without something: there will be refreshments on hand, and a goody-bag for every entrant.
Cary Carnival committee Press Officer Paul Hansford said, “We are looking forward to this year’s carnival and expect it will be every bit as good as last year’s.” He added, “Despite the credit crunch, Cary folk give us tremendous support and given generously, and we are very grateful for that.”
The procession will be led by this year’s children’s carnival prince and princess, Oliver Higgins and Tia Reynolds.
Children up to 14 years of age are welcome to take part. If you would like to know more about Castle Cary Children’s Carnival contact the organiser Ann Hallett (01963 350857). Entry forms are available at Heather’s Flowers and McColls in Castle Cary. But be quick: they must be in by Friday!
