Cream tea to celebrate carnival donations

In early March, Castle Cary and Ansford Carnival Society celebrated giving £1500 to13 local charitable causes with a fabulous cream tea.  The Society welcomed nearly 100 people, to the town’s newly renovated Scout Hall, delighted to be able to thank so many local people, businesses and societies for making last year’s carnivals such a great success.

The carnival’s young royalty presented donations to a wide range of local charitable causes including:

  • The local Community Assessible Transport (CAT) bus – to help keep this important service running
  • Ansford Academy PTA – helping this newly formed group raise funds to renovate the school hall.
  • Caryford Hall – to purchase a microwave, as part of their ongoing major refurbishment.
  • Local Girl Guides, Megan Knapp and Phoebe Lennard– to help fund their community building trip to Tanzania.

The full list of charitable organisations receiving donations were; local Girl Guides, CAT bus, Ansford Academy PTA, Castle Cary Primary School, Brue Valley Rotary, Caryford Community Hall, The Devon & Somerset Fire Rescue Service, Castle Cary Cygnet Majorettes, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Castle Cary Scouts and St Johns Ambulance.

North Cadbury PTFA and Castle Cary Primary PTFA also received their commission for sales of carnival toys during the carnival procession.

“It is a very special event in our carnival calendar,” said Society Chairperson Di Pinnions, “An opportunity to celebrate what carnival is all about as we hand out donations to support our local community, and thank everyone who has helped us.”

Special thanks were given to everyone who helped with the carnival; including marshals, other town carnival committees, and a whole range of volunteers who give their time, and often, financial support too.   Very grateful thanks were also given to the local organisations and businesses that provide the critical sponsorship for the carnival.

“It was great last year to receive support from so many new and returning faces!  Lots of people and companies who are new to the area love carnival too and want to get involved.”, said General Secretary, Caroline Sharley.

This year a special ‘Best Collector’ award was given to Rich Frapple, for his Children’s Carnival entry.  “Bring on this year!” said his clearly delighted Mum, Joy.
