Castle Cary & Ansford’s Children’s Carnival 2014

Castle Cary & Ansford’s Children’s Carnival, last Saturday, played out in bright sunshine. The procession around Castle Cary town centre was very successful, led by the town’s majorettes and the Children’s Carnival Prince Kieran Ball and Princess Charlotte White, riding in Doris the Morris open top car. A wide variety of entries included a Viking Invasion; Autumn, Winter and Tooth Fairies, and a walking Cocktail Sausage!

CCACS Press Officer Paul Hansford said, “We were very impressed by the quality of the entries, and by the number of people who turned out to watch the procession. On behalf of the Committee, I’d like to thank everyone involved – especially our organiser Ann Hallett, and Castle Cary Primary school for hosting the children before and after the procession.”

Cary’s Carnival Committee is now looking forward to this Saturday’s Illuminated Carnival. With Frome’s Town Crier Mike Bishop leading, the procession will include a marching band, five troupes of majorettes and major carnival clubs including Hot Rock, Just Georges, Revellers, Magnum – plus the town’s own Cary Comedians club (and more already confirmed) the carnival looks set to be a good one. And the fun fair is back in town this year.

The procession starts at the earlier time of 7.00pm; there will be parking restrictions on the procession route from 5.00pm (any vehicles found parked on the route after this time may be subject to prosecution and may be removed, by Police authorisation). Road closures, in and around Castle Cary, will be in force from 6.30pm . So make sure you get in to Cary well before these times.

Committee President, Gordon Stockman said, “As ever, we are relying on the generosity of people – from Cary and other towns – who give up their time and energy to help us out. This includes the many marshals that we are required to provide, but also some aspects of carnival operations that people do not see. To quote just one example, Simon Mitchell of the Horse Pond Inn in Cary has loaned us his bus to ferry our visiting judges around. It’s lesser-known contributions to carnival like this, that make it happen.”
