Castle Cary Carnival Season Is Underway!

Carnival season in Castle Cary and Ansford is underway! The sun shone for our first procession, the Children’s Carnival last Saturday, with around 90 children taking to the streets in a festival of colour and creativity.

Leading the way were the town’s majorettes, and the Children’s Carnival Prince and Princess, Noah Stott and Esther Baker, riding in their very own float.

The entries were extremely varied, including a huge wheeled dinosaur, walking flowerpots, scary Ghostbusters, fluttering parrots and dragonflies – plus a lesson in healthy five-a-day eating!

Committee Treasurer, Ann Emery said “It’s a great afternoon; watching the children proudly parading through the town, with strong backing from all the adults involved to make it possible! On behalf of the Committee, I’d like to thank everyone for their support; especially our new Children’s Carnival sponsors, Batten’s Solicitors’ Charitable Trust, Children’s Carnival organisers Ann and Claire Hallett, and Castle Cary Primary school for hosting the children before and after the procession.”

Cary’s Carnival Committee is now looking forward to this Saturday’s Illuminated Carnival. As well as the usual big floats, there are some new attractions in this year’s procession; pom-poms, frilly knickers and stubble as the town welcomes Wilts hire’s New Male Majorettes, also the 20 strong Blackdown Samba Band and a stunning vintage car from Haynes International Motor Museum.

From 6pm, the car is outside the Market House for people to sit in, a local band is also playing there as people gather, and the funfair is back bigger than ever.

Committee President, Gordon Stockman said, “ The spirit of carnival is alive and very well indeed! Castle Cary is such a big-hearted town; everyone from here, from the surrounding area, local organisations and other carnival committees all come to together to make it a great night out. We’re really looking forward to it.”

The procession starts at 7.00pm; there will be parking restrictions on the procession route from 5.00pm (any vehicles found parked on the route after this time may be subject to prosecution and may be removed, by Police authorisation). Road closures, in and around Castle Cary, will be in force from 6.3 0pm
